Monroe County High School launched a new Varsity Boys and Girls soccer program this season.
Last season the Falcons played a JV schedule in preparation for the varstiy season in 07. As with any new sport there will be a learning curve. Ladies Falcon Coach Elrod said "it has been a little tough just trying to learn everything, you really need to teach them from the ground up. Ten out of our 13 girls have never played soccer before, but they play hard and give everything they have and thats all we can ask for."
Both soccer programs have a good number of players for the first season. The boys has 24 and girls 27. "In a couple of years we will be fine. For the most part we are very young" added Elrod.
Monroe County's Junior Whitley Poland, "it's been kind of hard this year, because a lot of times are self confidence gets down because we are not winning games. When we do win one it will feel really good". Whitley admits that coming down and facing Bowling Green and Greenwood is scary, but right now Whitley say "I play to have fun and as a team we just want to improve each game"
