In 2007, the Warren East Raiders started right where they left off in 2006 putting points on the board, a lot of points. Perfect in their first 4 games the Raiders have outscored their opponents 170-72. By air and by ground the Raiders have an explosive offensive attack that keeps opposing teams guessing as to which Raider will cross the goal line for six. Coincidently, on any given play there are six offensive weapons Coach Bruni has at his disposal. Thru 4 games, Senior Quarterback Jordan Ellis has 1,069 yards passing, 12 TD's and 5.0 yards per carry for a total of 95 yards. Senior running back, Terrence Dunn has rushed for 231 yards averaging 6.4 yards per carry with 3 touchdowns. Junior Power Back, Antonious Owens averages 5.9 yards per carry, 148 yards rushing with 1 TD. Senior Receiver Jon Yates averaging 18.4 yards per catch, 7 TD's and over 258 total yards. Senior WR Demetric Ray averaging 23 yards per catch over 263 total yards with 2 TD's. Senior WR Deangelo Kirk averaging 21.3 yards per catch over 404 yards in receptions with 1 TD. In addition to this group Junior WR Shenard Holton has 4 TD's on the season with an average of 19.4 yards per catch. As impressive as these numbers are individually and collectively, to these players the numbers are only a means to an end, a State Championship.

"If we can't run the ball we will throw it. I try to spread the ball around to all theses guys because of what they can do" said senior quarterback Jordan Ellis. Senior WR Demetric Ray admits that last year the offense was pretty good but they seem to struggle. "This season I am satisfied with what I am doing on the field, but yet I am not satisfied because we still have nine games left in the season. We have to continue to go out and play hard and stay focused every game so we can get that state title" said Ray.

Internally the players say that they are competitive among themselves, but realize the success of the team is what will bring them a state championship. Junior running back Antonious Owens said, "We are getting good numbers because of how we perform as a group. A team cannot just key on Shenard, Deangelo or Terrence they have to prepare for all of us". Senior WR Jon Yates plans on going out with a bang, Yates said "last season I was not considered an offensive threat, I was more of a defensive player, but since we graduated 2 or 3 receivers from last year I am getting more reps. If they key on Deangelo or any of our receivers I can slide out from my tight end position and pick up the yards that way". Senior running back Terrence Dunn said "I am having a pretty good season so far, it's not the same previous years were I would run for 100 or 200 yards per game because this season we have so many good receivers. These guys have stepped up and are making a lot of things happen. We are sharing the load because of the good athletes here." Senior receiver Deangelo Kirk said "we have a talented quarterback so all we have to do is run our routes and he will get us the ball. Jordan and I practice every day difficult pass throws and routes we are used to each other."

Coach Ben Bruni said, "When you have a group of guys like this that have been playing together for a long time, it makes things so much easier. They understand how to work with one another out on the field and often make on-field adjustments without having to be told. There has to be a pretty good relationship between the QB and his receivers and running backs, and all of these guys are on the same page. I can't tell you how many times they have made things happen on their own, not because of the design of a play, but because of their intuitive sense of what one another is going to do".

Sitting down with these athletes you would get the impression they are more like family than teammates. "Most of us have been together since little league, we all know each other and it helps us out on the field. More than anything we just want to win, it's not about the stats. Since we were freshman we have wanted to win a state championship. This is the class that will put East back on the map", said Deangelo.
