For the fourth and final time this season the Bowling Green Purples and the Greenwood Gators boys soccer teams met for the 4th Region Championship match. For the season the Puples had defeated Greenwood twice before only losing to them in the Purple's Classic tournament. Unlike the previous matchups, this game was the most significant of all as the winner advances to the sub sectional state tournament.

Bowling Green in the first half controlled the tempo of the game with offensive pressure which resulted in a goal from senior midfielder Collin Kelley. In the second half Greenwood came out with more intensity and offensive presence however the Purples defense turned them away. Late in the second half Bowling Green's senior forward Juan Maldanado scored to put the game away.

Coach Craig Widener,"This one is special, I wanted this more for these kids than anything. Many of these players I have coached since the 9th grade".

Bowling Green now prepares to defend their 2006 state championship as they travel to Madisonville North Hopkins to face the 15-4 Maroons in the sub sectional at Madisonville October 22nd.
