The Sporting Times recently asked John Hardin coach Mark Brown his thoughts on the Bulldogs home match against Bowling Green Friday. Here are his thoughts:
The Sporting Times: What are just your initial thoughts on Bowling Green?
Brown: They're an extremely good team. They remind me of the Male and St. X teams that we've gone against before. They're just extremely talented. They're very solid all over, fundamentally sound. They play great defense plus they have so many offensive weapons they can hurt you with. They can run the ball and throw the ball. Usually high school teams are one or the other but in their case, they can do both equally well. They're so well balanced and so experienced. They're gonna big a big task for us.
ST: What are your thoughts of them individually?
Brown: They've got two or three guys that are Division I caliber guys and when I see the film, I see why. They're very talented and individually, their quarterback is very dangerous. He can throw and run. When you face that double threat, it makes it so hard to defend them. A lot of quarterbacks, you wanna flush out of the pocket. You don't wanna flush him out, he'll hurt you, but if you don't put pressure on him he'll hurt you throwing. It's sort of a double edged sword. He can really press. Their running backs are good, my goodness, their receivers. They've got two great big receivers. Then they've got another that might be as dangerous as anybody. I hate to sit and gush about them but they really are that talented.
ST: How do you feel like your team overall matches up with Bowling Green?
Brown: Overall, we probably don't have the experience on our team that they have but, we've got some team speed. Hopefully that will pay off for us. We've got some good running backs. The problem is gonna be finding a way to move the ball against this Bowling Green team. I think we're gonna have to play a mistake free game. We'll have to play well. We can't have turnovers.
ST: How has the motivation from losing JaMark McCloud before the season motivated your team.
Brown: It's really brought the whole team closer together and really bonded them together that's carried through the whole season and through the playoffs.
