The Warren East Lady Raiders followed up their boys' win Friday night with a big home victory of their own against a struggling Warren Central team handing the Lady Dragons their eight straight loss.
East jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, ending the quarter up 24-9. With four seconds left in the second quarter Ashley Rainey hit two free throws putting East up 44-24 at halftime.
Katie Bonds extended the Lady Raiders' lead to 37 points with a layup putting Warren East up by a score of 66-29 with 2:25 left in the third quarter. Central found themselves down 68-36 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which would be no different than the first three quarters.
East pulled away by as many as 39 points and eventually won by a final score of 82-48 improving their regional record to 9-1 and moving to 4-1 in the 14th district. Warren East coach Angie Anderson said, "I think our guards did really good tonight handling the pressure; they pressed us the whole game. We can always work on handling the pressure, and even with our size the way it is, rebounding and getting stops are still areas we need to improve on."
Ashley Rainey had 31 points leading the Lady Raiders in scoring, and teammates Keisha Ray and Katie Bonds contributed 12 points each. Jordan Crain scored 12 points and Krystin Corder had 11 for the Lady Dragons as they fell to 0-3 in the district and 2-5 in the region.
Warren East has another district matchup at Greenwood on the 25th, and Central will look for their first win since December 20th when they travel to Barren County on Tuesday.
