I was ready. I wanted to be an NBA fan. Badly.
Growing up in Cincinnati I always wondered what it would be like if Cincy had a NBA team. Would I root for them as much as I did the Reds and Bengals? Surely, right?
On Monday or Tuesday I talked with a good friend of mine and we decided that if somehow Washington were to win the draft, we would split the cost for a NBA league pass. One of us would watch on TV and the other could access it on the internet.
(If you didn't know I went to UK (as did my friend) so the thought of a John Wall/Anthony Davis combo was very exciting.)
Then the Hornets won the lottery. Ugh. I would have given thought to pledging my fandom to Charlotte if they won the lottery simply because I have another good friend who lives there and maybe could have tried to make it to a game or two.
If I had to associate myself with a team in the league it would be the Orlando Magic. My aunt and uncle have lived in O-Town for a while and when I was young a was a huge Shaq fan. I even had a life-size cardboard cut out of him. 7 feet tall. My dog was not a fan of it.
I will admit I am as casual an Orlando fan as you can get. I keep up with their record, have a decent knowledge of their roster, but when they lose my day isn't ruined.
So that prompts me to ask, what sports do you all want to be a fan of, but for whatever reason just can't?
I want to be am NBA die hard, really I do, and I thought it might just happen. But right now, I can't.
