Homecoming '11

Can the Tops break the home losing streak?

As we all know the Hilltoppers are attempting to break the loooong losing streak at home. Could it happen Saturday? Sure, it could.

When I look at Lafayette, I first see a team that WKU beat on the road last year and pretty soundly.

I know that was last year and this is this year, but the players remember that and you've got to think that gives them some added confidence going into the game.

When you look at the always important momentum, I think it goes both ways. Lafayette has won six in a row and done so by an average of 11 points. The tops have won two in a row for the first time since 2007.

Lafayette is a better passing team, WKU runs the ball better. Lafayette's defense is better at stopping the run and WKU's is, you guessed it, better at stopping the pass.

I don't get wrapped up in looking at the records, if I did, it would be easy to say Lafayette is going to win, no questions asked. But, I see a WKU team that has looked like a completely different squad after the Indiana State debacle. They are one yard away from being undefeated in Sun Belt play.

On paper Lafayette should cruise to victory, but the games aren't played on paper. On paper, Andrew Jackson isn't accounted for (and FYI, Jackson is quickly becoming my favorite player in college football.) I can see Lafayette overlooking the Tops.

It's homecoming, what better time to end the losing streak and keep the momentum going.

I say WKU 21 - Lafayette 17.
