One week In the Books

My thoughts on week 1 of high school football and other things

Week one of high school football is in the books and it brought us some things to talk about. I was at four games and here are some of my observations. Feel free to agree or disagree with them.

Warren Central looked very impressive in their win against Trousdale County, and running back Eric Brown was nothing short of sensational. After the game he even boldly said "we're going to state." Maybe a little early to make that claim, but I liked his confidence.

I didn't get to see much of the Greenwood game because I had to get back to the station, but when I was there the Gators had trouble moving the ball, but Jeff Witthuhn is one big QB who seemed capable of running any defender over.

Warren East looked good against South Warren, mind you it was South Warren's first ever varsity game. Adarius Barnett was very impressive as he made it look easy most of the game. East winning it's first season opener since '08 has to have them and coach Ben Bruni feeling good.

Although they didn't score, I thought the Spartans moved the ball well at times, they could just never punch one in. I have to believe having their first ever play be a kickoff taken back on them was a little deflating. They'll have growing pains sure, but I think they will be competitive this year and give some teams a good game.

Bowling Green looked dominant in every phase of the game over ACS. They moved the ball without trouble, although the deep passing game looked a little off. They were far superior athletically, which really helped their cause.

No knock on ACS, it is hard to replace as many seniors as they lost from last years state runner-up team. Having a punt blocked for a TD and a punt returned for a TD wasn't good, and it will be interesting to see how the team and coach Brad Hood respond this week in a title game rematch against Boyle County.

Now then... onto other things...

I will continue to tell everyone to watch AMC's Breaking Bad. Supreme TV. My favorite character has to be Jesse, the guy who plays him, Aaron Paul, does a remarkable job of making you care about Jesse. Do yourself a favor, check it out.

If you need a good book to read check out anything by Dennis Lehane or James Rollins. Good stuff, in my opinion.

Last movie I saw was 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' It was fantastic.
