WKU-Monroe Prediction

Tops are going to win their fourth in a row, just you watch.

I'm not going to say I'm getting good at this, but I have predicted the last three Hilltopper wins. If you don't believe me you can go back and check my blogs.

So the Tops are traveling to Monroe this weekend to try to win their fourth game in a row and get to .500 on the season. My gut is telling me this is a trap game for WKU. They've won three in a row, and the last one was the big, emotional homecoming victory over Lafayette.

There are two things I think about when looking at this game.

1) The emotional hangover from the homecoming game. I think this could be a big factor against the team. Coming off a big win, it would be easy to think they might not be 100% there. They may still be enjoying the victory at home, and aren't 100% recovered. It's one of those things you can't compute, you can't look at on paper.

2) Another thing you can't see on paper, momentum. If you don't think momentum has an effect in sports then you just don't watch enough sports. If any team has the most mo' in the Sun Belt it has to be Western. Three straight wins, the last one being over the first place Ragin' Cajuns.

The big question is, which will play a bigger role? The hangover or the momentum. Only time will tell, we'll see Saturday. I know from talking with Coach Taggart, the team has a '24 hour' rule, so they have been done celebrating the homecoming win for a few days now. These are also 20, 21 year old kids. Who knows what will happen.

I'm going to go against my gut feeling.

Bottom line, I have picked WKU to win the last three and they have. So until they prove me wrong I am going to keep picking them. I'll say the Tops win 31-17, and get to .500 for the first time in the Willie Taggart regime and the first time this deep into a season since '07. In '08 they started 2-2 and lost their last eight.

That would set up a very big home game against FIU, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
