By now you know the Hilltoppers have won four games in a row. If you didn't know, then yes, WKU has won their last four games.
Did anyone think it was possible, especially after the home loss to Indiana State? I'm sure the coaches and players did, not to sure the fans did.
The team is one yard away from being undefeated in Sun Belt play. So how did this happen? What makes an 0-4 team all of the sudden flip a switch and win four in a row?
Well I'm sure there are a number of factors.
I think it's safe to say after the home loss to Arkansas State, something inside that locker room happened. I think the team was so close to breaking the home losing streak, that the loss really fired them up and brought them closer together.
If you have followed the team this year then you know without question it has been a different team in Sun Belt play. They have been more competitive, as shown by their current win streak, and they have played like a team with confidence in themselves.
To me that's the biggest thing. A team with confidence is a scary thing. When a team thinks they can win every game that's great, but when a team KNOWS they can win every game, that's something different.
Right now this team is playing with a confidence that they know they can win whenever they step on the field.
The MTSU win started it all and I think after the ASU loss they team decided they had had enough of the losing and it was time to start things over. And they did just that with the two overtime win.
The FAU win was a matter of FAU is just bad. Plain and simple.
Lafayette was the perfect situation. A two game winning streak and a chance at home, on homecoming, to snap the home game losing streak against the Sun Belt leader. The team came out and played like champions.
The Monroe win was big because it showed that unlike last year, this team can win close games. Even when it seemed like the Tops were about to blow a game they should have won, they held on to win.
I'm not ready to predict a result for this week's game, but I just wanted to look at the current win streak and how it has happened. Four game winning streaks aren't easy and for a team new to D-1, it''s even more impressive.
Today Coach Taggart talked about experience and how the players are now more used to playing with each other and the coaches and the system, and that's a huge part of their current success.
I think the more comfortable this team gets, the more wins fans will see this year and beyond.
It appears as if Coach Taggart and company are building something and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
