Dear Viewers, This being my first day back to work following my encounter with a stray dog, I want to say thank you to all who offered their support since the attack. Aside from the first 48-hours, recovery has been surprisingly smooth. Lacerations were the worst above the forearm and on my shoulder. Since my wounds were from an animal bite however, doctors feared stitches would only seal-in an infection. Upon further research, I see where this is a rather common procedure. Some of the questions that have been circulating since Tuesday, are how scratches appeared on my forehead. When the dog approached me, I sensed an attack was imminent. You always hear of animals attacking the throat or the head first. So, fearing the worst, I placed my arm up in defense. When the dog latched on, it stooped me over. This is when the animal placed its paw on the side of my face, and scratched me on my scalp and forehead. As I said in my interview following the attack, my belief remains the dog's goal was to force me to the ground. Luckily however, I stumbled backward against the door and was able to get inside quickly, where I called for help. I began vaccination for rabies on Thursday. With four more necessary over a span of several days, I am due again this Sunday. I must say, the vaccination is painful... but bearable. In conclusion, I want to extend my gratitude to friends, co-workers and loyal viewers of this station, for their continuing support in wishing me a speedy recovery. Thank you! - Jason |
