The transition to digital television is not without its hiccups and frustrations. We are adapting as you are adapting to this new technology. Now that our new digital transmitter and antenna are in place, we’re continuing to monitor our signal and will make adjustments as necessary in order to bring you the best TV signal possible.
Our engineers will be roaming our entire coverage area performing field tests in the coming days which will help us determine reception problems in parts of South Central Kentucky. In the meantime, if you are experiencing trouble picking up our signal, we offer the following tips to some of the most asked questions pertaining to our switch to digital.
“I am not receiving WBKO’s signal at all and haven’t since you signed off your analog channel in December. What happened?” On December 7th, WBKO ceased broadcasting our signal at analog channel 13. From that time until January 19th, we were broadcasting on a temporary digital transmitter at channel 33. From this point on, we will broadcast our signal at digital channel 13. You will need to purchase a DTV converter box and hook it up to your TV – or buy a new TV that comes with a built-in digital tuner in order to receive WBKO’s new digital signal.
“I rescanned my converter box on the day you switched over to the new transmitter and antenna but have not been able to pick you up since. What else do I need to do?” You may need to adjust the antenna you are using to pick us up. Because the antenna we are broadcasting from is different from the one we were using before January 19th, you will need to display the “signal strength” meter from your converter box or DTV tuner and make turn your antenna until you get a satisfactory signal.
“I am currently using an indoor rabbit ear antenna and was picking up your signal fine until the switch on January 19th. Will I need to purchase a different kind of antenna or an outside mast to pick you up now?” If you’re within a 15-20 mile radius of our tower in Richardsville, you should have no trouble picking up our new signal with a regular rabbit ear antenna. If you’re within this range and still cannot receive our signal, try extending the rabbit ear antenna all the way out. You might also try moving the antenna around and watching the signal strength display from your converter box which can be displayed on your TV screen.
For those outside a 20-mile radius from Richardsville: Regular rabbit-ear antennas may not pick up our new signal at that distance. You may want to look at purchasing an attic-mounted or rooftop-mounted antenna for better reception. In any case, make sure the antenna you purchase receives both VHF and UHF channels.
Pointing your antenna: Want to know the exact direction to point your antenna in order to receive the best signal? There are two very helpful websites where you can input your home address and get a printout of all available signals in your area. The first is http://www.antennaweb.org and another is http://www.tvfool.com “I have tried rescanning, adjusting the antenna and even purchasing a higher gain antenna, but I still cannot get WBKO..now what?” Our engineers will be field testing our signal strength all over South Central Kentucky in the coming days. Please send us your name and address and we will come to your location and check the signal from your vantage point. The data we gather from these on-site field tests will help us determine what adjustments are necessary in order to provide a better signal.
“I have an HD satellite receiver from our satellite provider…how do I rescan this to receive WBKO?” You will need to contact your satellite provider (DirecTV or Dish) and ask them to assist you with retuning your high-definition satellite receiver so that it will recognize WBKO’s digital signal. “I also have satellite. It would make things a lot simpler if WBKO were on either DirecTV or Dish. Why aren’t you?” We would be happy to be on both satellite systems as a local option but it is up to both DirecTV and Dish Network to link us there. We’ve been in contact with both satellite companies about adding WBKO for our viewing area but have received no reply to our request.

I still cannot get WBKO..even with a new digital TV and antenna on a tower with a booster?” Burkesville, Ky
Sure would like to keep up with local news and weather!!
Posted by: pibb Location: B G THIS DIGITIAL MESS IS SO BAD AND WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THEY TELL YOU BUY OR DO WITH OUT..WHAT THAT TELLS ME SOMENONE MADE A LOT OF $$$$$$$ OFF US STILL NO T.V.HAFE THE TIME Posted by: EN Location: south warren Please get the BG TV market on Dish Network! Weak digital signals means I don't watch local TV much so the valuable advertising messages aren't reaching me. If I could view WBKO (and WNKY) via satellite our family might actually watch network TV/local affiliate programming but since seeing the signal has become a digital crapshoot of scan/rescan, we stick with channels we can see on satellite. Yet people a mile down the road from us in Simpson County can get "local channels" on satellite. Hmmmmm. Posted by: Carl Location: Leitchfield, Ky. 42754 I have tried several antennas, and I have a HDTV. I can't get you guys, please come out and field test my area, and tell me what I need. Posted by: J K Location: Smiths Grove 8/10/2009-The majority of the signal has cut in and out today. Rescanning or resetting the the antenna hasn't helped. When are we going to be able to view channel 13 again with all the interruption? In the event of an emergency we'd all be blown away if depending on channel 13 today!! Posted by: kelly Location: browder, kentucky this digital t.v sucks.I was before the transition picking up 13 {the only channel to watch} great along with several other channels.now,nothing...Its very upsetting.I have invested over $400 in my antenna, boaster, roter and still nothing but one c.b.s channel and a couple channel 9's. Help I need my channel 13. Posted by: Larry Location: burkesville,ky. when is wbko going to be added to dishnetwork ? Posted by: Charles Location: Leitchfield Is anyone in Leitchfield picking up channel 13? We've tried different things, nothing has worked and no one has answers, very frustrating Posted by: carrie sonnier Location: jennings,la.70546 we an never see the t.v. because its always messing up and today i can't cacth any channels at allo it says unavalible and i called every body in my area it them too so i know its not just me and i have two ditigal t.v.'s and they both do the same thong Posted by: Debbie Location: 2150 Brownsville Rd., Morgantown The majority of the time your signal cuts in and out even when there is no bad weather. When it storms it gets worse and I wonder what good it is if we can't hear what you all are reporting on. Sometimes we have no problem. Will this ever get better? Right now, Digital is a joke. Thanks, Posted by: Pauletta Location: Tompkinsville I am getting 13, but why when the weather is bad it is cutting out to where cannot understand what you are saying about the weather, your voice just cuts off all the time. Also like today weather is perfect & all at once No Signal. Is this something that is gong to happen all the time? Posted by: TRUDY Location: ROCHESTER KY. yes since we switched over we just get 3 channel 13s. to try to get more channels do we need to move the antenna? if so will we lose what we already have. Posted by: B G Location: JAMESTOWN KY IS THERE A REASON W B K O COMES AND GOES ? AND WHY IS THE SIGNAL SO WEAK? Posted by: Paul Location: Madisonville Your signal is now making it to the west side of Madisonville.I have a 40ft tower and a 20db preamp.I,m in your deep fringe area with signal level at 17 and 18.My picture is fine in the morning and at night, but during the day-time it tiles out.Another 10-kw Should stop my day-time tiling. All and all you guys did good. Posted by: Ann Location: Scottsville I get your signal just fine but my VCR (which is about 15 years old) will not record anything on Channel 13. Just wondering why? I can record other channels that I get on my antenna just fine. Posted by: Michelle Location: Elkton, KY I have an outdoor antenna and an indoor antenna and I still cannot get WBKO. I rescanned last night after reading the signal was better and still nothing. What is odd is that when the temporary antenna was first transmitting, I could get WBKO with rabbit ears! Posted by: Thomas Location: Hadley Here we go again, no signal. 05/03/09 I received your signal better when you were using your temporary antenna. Posted by: Carol Location: Bowling Green,KY Since the change over I have noticed that while I might have two tv's on at the same time (in different rooms) there is a delay in the signal and they are not picking up the same thing at the same time. Just wondered why. Posted by: Rick Location: Persimmion (Monroe Co) Your sig hr in northern monroe is between 86 and 90 depending on the wx. I just wish you had local hd news. Posted by: David Location: Cemetery Rd. I just wanted to let you know that what ever was just done to increase your signal this time is working. As of 4-27-09 your signal is ranging from 90- to 100 the most it has ever been. The only station that is stronger is channel 30 from Nashville which is holding a constant 100% which is excellent considering the distance. Thank you very much it is so good to have a constant picture. Posted by: David Location: cemetery rd. I thought your signal was increased on 4-22-09 but it is weaker now than before. It is only reading 50-65 with antenna pointing to the strongest signal. I have outside antenna with rotor and amp. Iam recieving channel 2 from nashvill good with a reading of 85 to 90. Your picture has constant drop out now and it didn't before and neither does channel 2. Will this get better anytime soon? Posted by: Ellen Location: Morgantown,Ky 42261 Got new HD tv got con.box still can't get ch. 13. Chris and Laura I miss you. Ellen Posted by: bo Location: big clifty,ky i think you guys need to come out this way to field test...i was picking you guys up..then my box went out...i got another one...now i cant pick you up Posted by: NANCY HAGAN Will the New Booster you are installing help...I cannot get WBKO...Wnky comes in perfect....WCTE Cookeville ....Nancy..Tompkinsville Posted by: Cason I was wondering when you will go from 11.6kw to 22kw. I would like to know so that I can know if I can get it or not. Thanks. Posted by: Debbie Location: Morgantown Before digital I could get WBKO with no problem, now the signal cuts in and out most of the time, especially at night. Lately and when we had the severe weather, the signal was so bad, I could not tell or hear what was going on. I realize the weather probably had something to do with it but there is not bad weather all the time. In case of bad weather is when people would really need to know what is going on. I have very little problems with 13.2 & 13.3, it is always 13.1. Do you have any suggestions and are you all still working the kinks out? Thanks, Debbie Posted by: Thomas Location: Hadley It's a shame that I have to watch Nashville channels during bad weather to keep informed because channel 13's signal is so unreliable. Posted by: Sherry Location: Franklin, KY We occassionally are able to get good reception of WBKO. We've done everything you suggest and still can't get the station the majority of the time. We REALLY miss watching WBKO, but are now watching Nashville stations -- which come in perfectly. We would welcome any help you can offer. Posted by: Enrique Location: California my favorite dtv channels have low signal or no signal at all, how can I get a good signals. Posted by: chris Location: bowling green how can i connect my vcr to converter box and be able to tape off of it. i cant find your older post about this. Posted by: Carl Location: Shrewsbury We use to get 13 analog very strong with rabbit ears. Purchased converted. Have auto-scanned several times but channel 13 is never found at all during scan search. We are less than 20 air miles from Richardsville but with rabbit ears we get zero signal on 13. Please do a field test on Rabbit Flat Road. Posted by: Paul Location: Edmonton KY I have always been able to pick your signal in Edmonton over the antenna in our camper. We can pick up channel 40.1 and 40.1 but nothing for 13. Any suggestions? Posted by: Regina Location: scottsville Chris, I need ur help. We haven't been able to rec. ch. 13 in digital from about 2 weeks after the station transitioned. We have 2 digital tuner tvs' and have rescanned and still cant pick up 13. please advise some instructions or advice. It is very frustating not being able to get bowling green station... Posted by: marylee schanen Location: Rough River Lake, Breck Co. Chris, I love the picture, however all my TV's lose signals during a T-storm. Anything we can do to prevent that. During a storm, we really depend on WBKO to keep us safe. Louiville and Evansville not much use, but we lose their signals too during a storm. Posted by: Thelma Saltsman Location: United States do you leave the converter box on, once you turn it on or turn it off and on as you need it Posted by: Joe Location: Bowling Green I have direct TV and recieve local channel via an antenna. 2 Direct TV receivers has been getting our signals (from my antenna) for over a year and passed all your recent test. But now no Direct TV receivers in my house picks up your signals but the one digital converter box (non Direct Tv) still does. My anteena hasn't moved in over a year. what are you doing to the signal thats blocking the Direct Tv setup thats been working for over a year and even worked when you were asking us(if you can see this you will be ok) Posted by: MARY Location: JAMESTOWN CHRIS.PLEASE WHY IS RHIS DTV THING TAKING SO LONG? WILL IT BE JUNE NOW BEFORE WE CAN PICK IT UP? Posted by: jesse Location: Celina Cable TV i am the supervisor of the Celina division, Posted by: mike Location: belton,ky why does wbko's 60% signal freeze, stutter, skip while my weaker Nashville and Evansville's don't. Posted by: Barbara Location: Zip 42259 I was receiving your transmission loud and clear up until a couple of weeks ago, now nothing for channel 13. I do get channel 40. I checked my antenna and it looks ok. Could there be a reason at your end why I can't get 13 anymore? I live near Nolin Lake and my zip code is 42259. Posted by: William Location: Glasgow, KY I think the delay to June for the DTV changeover is a poor decision. We need to get it over and done and let everyone get things settled out. I was Proj. Engr. & Test Site Supvr on Lut 3 when we launched Apollo 11. All the TV from the moon came down digital and was converted to feed the networks. I really expected to see Digital TV in my home within 3 - 4 years of that, but the continual procrastinating and haggling in the FCC has delayed it. Posted by: Ken Location: Morgantown Since all this change of signals my audio and video are out of sync, I can change channels and it is ok for a few min. Do you have any suggestions Thanks Ken Posted by: Colleen Location: Gold City area simpson county i have a converter box hooked up and have received wbko only for a few days off and on but have not been able to receive it for over a week now so dont know if i bought a new tv if that would solve the problem or if im just too far away from your towers and signal to pick up wbko thanks colleen Posted by: spike Location: Campbellsville "Posted by: Bea Location: russell co is it true that the lexington(and other)channels will have to wait till june to go digital" Bea, the extension that Congress foolishly gave is only the date that stations MUST shut off their analog. They can shut it off anytime they want, though, just as WBKO did. They're not forced to wait. Posted by: Bea Location: russell co is it true that the lexington(and other)channels will have to wait till june to go digital Posted by: Jim Location: Leitchfield, KY Why do you broadcast your 13-1 in 16:9 ratio and yet my TV receives it in 4:3 ratio. I cannot get rid of the black bars on the sides of my screen. My TV instructions say not to view the TV with black bars on the sides except for a short time. Your other channels 13-2 and 13-3 are broadcast in 4;3 aspect ratio and my TV fills out the screen in 16:9 ratio. This is very confusing especially since some network programs are broadcast in 16:9 and you pass them along in 16:9. Are you ever going to broadcast in 16:9 all the time and allow my TV to receive it in 16:9 to fill my screen. If not, all I will watch is the news and not the other shows. Posted by: Reggie Probus Location: Horse cave, Ky Hi, Myself and all of my neighbors in my area where I live (horse cave ) can no longer recieve channel 13...we all have new digital tv's and antenae...My dad lives in the Legrande area , he no longer recieves 13 either. Reggie Posted by: Mary Location: Russellville What has happened to the CLOSED CAPTION??? iI miss it!! Posted by: Linda Location: Southeast Allen County I have always been able to get your channel until it went digital now it says weak signal. I have a HD tv. What is the problem. Thanks Posted by: Tim Location: Greensburg Have received WBKO analog crystal clear for 40 years, but getting no digital signal at all. Have very good antenna setup with 8-bowtie UHF screen and Channel Master VHF antenna on 40 foot tower. Posted by: tony Location: adair county i was getting 13 fine before the changeover now i got converter box no signal rescan rescan rescan no signal i hope everything is going clear picture before storms start if we cant get signal then please go D I S H Posted by: Donita Lashley Location: Auburm After Jan 19 I cannot get ch 13 any longer. I finally purchased a third antenna and got it to work until Jan. 19. Also I saw other comments as to why we can access Channel 13 on Direct TV as a local channel. Please help me get channel 13! Posted by: Freda Preston Location: welchs creek Will WBKO be on disk network. Posted by: bobby matney Location: adair co i got 45 foot tower and peamp on it signal comes and goes Posted by: Tammy Phelps Location: Morgantown, KY We can get KET stations and have signal strengths of upper 60's to mid 70's but still get no signal for 13; 40 or 24 at all. This is most frustrating!!! So how do we report this so the engineers can know where the signal is not working? Posted by: Renea Location: Glasgow how many chanells are we suppose to get when this New digitial is all over and done with ? Posted by: Thomas Location: Hadley(sally's rock) Since the 19th we sill have no signal. It would be nice if you would keep us informed about what, if anything is being done to improve your signal reception to your used to be listeners Posted by: Jane Mc Location: Scottsville Can't get any signal with my converter boxes. Moved the rooftop antenna and still nothing. How can I get reception? Posted by: anomymous Location: russell o why in the world is this dtv thing not working? i never seen such a mess .sometimes and only rarely can we see anything at all and then for a few min, then the voices go and the faces are all contorted and then back to"weak sighal" please do we have any hope? Posted by: Anonymous Location: Rockfield, KY We have a new HD television and when you turned over to the new technology, we got you for awhile and now we cannot get any channel from your location. Sometimes we will be able to get you at night, we get the 40 channels just fine. I wonder what the problem is. Posted by: J. C. Location: Franklin All this talk about digital verses analog reminds me of good products being new and improved. They get to charge a higher price for the same product. In the digital case a lot of tv's are being sold and a lot of converter boxes are being sold so money can be made by the manufactures of these products. Yet the public isn't really any better off. Are we? Of course you can guess where the tv's and converter boxes are made. Happy Trails Posted by: Sherri Vance Location: Bowling Green, KY What I want to know is this - WHY IS IT THAT, EVEN THOUGH I CAN PICK UP channels 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3 - I CANNOT PICK UP FREAKIN' 40.1, or MORE IMPORTANTLY 40.2?!?! All the hype about how much BETTER DIGITAL SIGNAL IS - quite simply is a CROCK Posted by: Anonymous Location: eastern monroe co. with analog signal we recieved wbko crystal clear with rooftop uhf vhf antenna. now with ditigal signal we have broken video and audio and loose the signal altogether sometimes.willthe signal eventually be boosted? Posted by: Anonymous I live in Scottsville and could get WBKO but now we cannot, we have rescanned and still nothing. Very frustrating especially during this weather it's hard to stay informed. Posted by: Deborah Location: Greensburg, KY I have a digital TV set but I cannot pick up WBKO. I am trying to pick it up from the use of an antenna since Channel 13 is not offered as a local station from the DISH compay. Posted by: richard Location: Scottsville Several weeks ago got the converter box. I got 13 well, along with some others that I never had before. Lost all my major network stations out of Tennessee. Got rid of the converter box, as the sports that I like to look at come on the major networks for the most part. I feel this is just another way to force we non-payers to get on satellite or cable. Not impressed with this changeover at all. Oh well, if the government says it's so, it's so. Posted by: A Location: Russellville I am also wondering where the improved better signal is. I had no problems before the change over getting the station and now I can't find it at all. I have rescanned several times and moved my antenna but still with no success. But I can now get Channel 5 out of Nashville, but I can't get a channel from Bowling Green. What gives? Posted by: jane Location: scottsville, ky We are no longer receiving channel 13. We have recently purchased and installed a new t. v. We received channel 13 for about a week after our t. v . was installed; however, we get nothing now. Posted by: Jeanne Location: Bowling Green We have rescanned as suggested, but 13.1, 13.2 and 13.3 are not being picked up on rescan. We have a 13 foot antenna that had no problem picking up the analog signal. We have two converter boxes & one DTV ready TV. What's going on here? We are less than 15 miles from Richardsville so I don't see a need to reposition an antenna that big. Any suggestions? Posted by: Naomi Location: Alvaton, Ky. I've had the same problem that it seems so many others are having. I was receiving the signal fine with the converter boxes and then "bam"! As soon as you permanently switched to the digital signal I re-scanned and haven't been able to get you since except in fragmented pieces! It has been a week! I don't know what else to do! Posted by: Cecil Location: KY/TN state line, 12 mile S. of Burkesville I can only receive your digital signal part time. This is acomplished by peaking the antenna your direction. I am on a 55' tower and using a pre amp. I could pick up your analog signal almost exellentIs there anything else I should do? Thanks. Posted by: Pat Location: Morgantown We bought a new TV, so we wouldn't need a converter box, and an inside RCA antenna to boost your signal, and we haven't seen you yet for more than a few minutes. Since the 19th, we don't get any channel 13. We get channels 24 and 53 in digital, but nothing from 13. I don't understand if all of these signals come from Bowling Green, then why would yours be weaker than channel 24 and 53? Any help would be appreciated. Posted by: Danny Bailey Location: Center, KY We are having trouble picking up your signal since the digital switchover. Can you please come out to Center and do one of thoses field tests so we can start picking up WBKO's signal again. We live at 1017 Center-Peggyville Road in Center, KY. E-mail us at wimerky@aol.com and let us know when you will be in the area and when we could expect to see you here. Thanks Posted by: Christine Location: Auburn We are also having issues with the new signal. We receive WBKO with a converter box in our bedroom, but our HDTV no longer picks up the signal. They are both using the same antenna outside (with a splitter). We've rescanned several times, but no luck. Is there anything we could do? Posted by: jackie Location: acree road russell springs ky Our signal will be good, then we loose signal, it will say "low signal strength". It just goes back and forth. Posted by: Mike Location: near Morgantown No signal here either. Rescanned several times. Have a high-end digital amplified roof antenna, rotated through 180 deg. but no signal. Pick up WKYU with 98% signal strength, WNKY with 80%, WBKO now 0%. Was excellent until the 19th. Posted by: Coleman Location: Woodbury, ky When it does pick up...its all messed up like satellite does during a rainstorm. Posted by: June Robinson Location: United States Russellville My convertor box is hooked up but I can't get 13 at all!! Posted by: Lorri Location: Rocky Hill I have dish network and when I rescanned, my channel 13 is not channel 70 and I can not change it to 13. Posted by: ray Location: cane valley KY Is there any way to get more signal toward columbia KY. We have always gotten the signal and now can not. I live in Cane Valley at 424 Cane valley mill rd and they do not offer us cable here. Just please reply and tell me whether or not it will ever be possible to receive the new digital signal in this area! Posted by: Larry Location: Georgia Will a satellite antenna work on a digital converter box Posted by: Matt Location: Edmonson Co I wanted to know when, or if your digital Fox and CW would become HD? Posted by: Tom Location: Morgantown Things got worse here after the change, lost 13 altogether on one TV. Thought the signal was suppose to be better not worse. Now I have to buy a different antenna and hope for the best. I don't see were the improvement is. I think we took a step backwards. Posted by: Debbie Location: Franklin .Ky I rescanned my converter box on the day you changed over Jan 19th. I have adjusted my antenna. What else can I do? Please help. Thank You Debbie Posted by: donna Location: morgantown I was recieving WBKO great eith the converter box until the 19th now we almost have to stand on our heads to keep a signal. It goes and come when people move in the house or stand in the wrong place.I dont understand why it was working great until the big switch that was suppose to make it better????????? Posted by: Richard Riney Location: 2929 Roark Rd Franklin, KY I am able to pick up WBKO on my analog tv w/converter box in on of my locations in the house w/cheap rabbit ears but unable to pick it up on my HDTV w/better rabbit ears in another location, have rescaned several times with no results. Posted by: Ed Location: Bremen, KY I received your signal great until you made the changes on Jan. 19th. I've re-scanned, moved my dish slightly in each direction, but I've had absolutely no luck.
