I gotta take a break from talking about DTV and weather to let off a little steam right now. We'll get back to those topics in another day or so. Right now, I just want to vent. Doncha just hate it when you get used to a product and the store - or the manufacturer - decides you don't need it anymore? I thought I lived in America. What's happened to our country? Within the past three weeks, two of my very favorite products have mysteriously left the store shelves for some unknown reason. ![]() Like VO5's Extreme hair putty. It was on the store shelves at Walmart...now it's not there. In fact, most of the VO5 products are gone. Why? I used that putty! There are just certain things that work for me and that was one of them. It didn't stink and it didn't make my hair look like I glued it together. I cannot stand hairspray. Other hair goop brands just don't cut it...not even Vitalis which is made for guys. They're either too goopy, stinky or runny. The VO5 product suited me best. I checked the Alberto-Culver (who makes VO5 products) website and they're still selling it everywhere but my Walmart! From the looks of things, I suppose I will have to order it on line and get it through the mail. And what about the Chocolate Chip Eggo brand Muffin Tops?? My wife and I were very happy to occasionally pop these in the toaster for a quick snack or treat. Then, about three weeks ago, Walmart stopped selling them! Correct that...they stopped selling the Chocolate Chip version of the Muffin Tops. If you go to Walmart right now, you'll see only the Blueberry flavored Muffin Tops. Again...why is this?? From the looks of things, the Blueberry version is usually stocked full while the Chocolate Chip version was moving product pretty well. The last three weeks we've gone from (what we refer to as) the "old" Walmart on Campbell Lane and the "new" one on Morgantown Road in search of the Chocolate Chip Eggo brand Muffin Tops. They're gone! Yet, the freezers are full of the Blueberry kind. ![]() I checked the Eggo website and found a store locator for their brands. It says for the Bowling Green area, only Kroger is selling the Chocolate Chip variety of Muffin Tops. Immediately I ask...why would Walmart stop selling them and Kroger decide to carry them? Being a curious guy, I ask these questions a lot and it drives people around me crazy. But it just doesn't make sense. I hate it when some nameless person in another place thinks they know what I like or don't like, then make the decision to pull a product I've been faithful to. It's un-American! Believe me...I will get to the bottom of this! (Some poor stock clerk is shaking in their shoes right now...NOT!) Look, this is not against Walmart...I love them and will continue to be a dedicated customer. I joke every time I'm in there that without me, this store would close! But you know, if you really think about it, what I'm saying is true. Without us buying the products, where would stores like Walmart be? Shelia and I are in there at least two or three times a week for something. We make it a habit to start our Saturday morning's early with a bite of breakfast at Cracker Barrel then off to "WallyWorld" to beat the crowds. It's America at its best. However, I do wish Walmart would make it easier to sound off about such things as product availability. When I went to their website, I got as far as Customer Care but found a lot of gibberish about this and that and sustainability. I could care less about "greening" up my life or that of my nearest Walmart store. (I'll save that for another blog - and by "saving" comments here, I've decreased my carbon footprint...right? Whatever.) They really need a place for customers like me to simply say "what happened to__________?" Well, tomorrow is Saturday and we'll be there like faithful shoppers...pushing our cart down the Health & Beauty aisle looking for my VO5 Extreme hair putty and seeing an empty shelf. Shelia will be turning the corner down the frozen food section hoping that maybe...just maybe...her Eggo Chocolate Chip Muffin Tops will somehow reappear. If not, we'll make do. We always do. We're Americans. |

I know how you feel Chris. There have been many items I have seen on a wednesday and come back Friday after getting paid to get it and IT'S GONE!! Then they tell me that was all they had in stock and they aren't ordering anymore!? NOOOOOO!!! lol. I hate it too. I feel your pain :( lol Posted by: Kevin Location: BGKY Walmart keeps it profit margin with hardcore price negotiations with its vendors and by pulling products that do not meet the sales/profit projections every item is subject to at Walmart. The answer is simple, as you acknowledged - find it elsewhere. We tend to cofuse convenience with neccesity. Posted by: lisa Location: russellville I agree, it drives me nuts to. I also hate it when they change the ingredients in something that I have used for a very long time. I get used to something and wham, they change it. It is not the same when they do that. Posted by: Jackie Location: Horse Branch Wal-Mart has also decided they don't need to carry De-Solv-it, the very best stain, grease, gum, etc... remover. I called the corporate office and they started carrying it again and now they have stopped again I called their main office again but it didn't work this time. I went on the De-Solv-it website and found that True Value Hardware still sells it. They said they sell a lot of it. If a lot of people are buying it why would Wal-Mart not want to carry it? It doesn't make sense. Posted by: DIANA Location: GREENSBURG This may not be exactly related to the original subject but...our cable company recently made the decision to no longer service our area due to cost factors. We do not have an antenna and even if we did the reception is poor in our location. We miss tuning in to Channel 13 for our local weather, news and Chris & Laura in the morning. We have Dish network with other local TV channels but not channel 13. We think it would be great if Channel 13 could be available through Dish network. Any possibilities or comments? Posted by: abby Location: glasgow I know like I love vo5 hair putty two and its gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: LKing Location: Glasgow Sometimes if you go to Big Lots, you will find products that are no longer stocked in other stores. You must check once you realize that they are no longer being marketed/manufactured. After checking WalMart and KMart, I found the Pantene Product I used at Big Lots and bought all 8 of them. After I use those, I guess I will be forced to use something else. Good Luck!! Have a blessed day! Posted by: Amanda Location: Bowling Green Do people really have nothing better to do than criticize Chris for speaking his mind? It's a blog for goodness sakes!!! Don't worry about how he spells words (or mis-uses an apostrophe)...it's not the end of the world!!! If you don't like it, don't look at it!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: Chris Location: BG I have felt that dissapointment before, myself. But, it could be gone be for a very important reason. I have another "Doncha Hate When" moment: Donch hate it when the local TV station interupts your daily programming for a live feed of a failing basketball program's monotinous press conference that is 200 miles away? Seriously, it's time to get over the Wildcats for the year. Leave the sports to ESPN, and report the news. Hell, I'd be happy to listen to Chris and Laura complain about hair products for an hour than be forced to watch more UK headlines. Seems like the Western Kentucky TV station has bigger dreams than reporting what's right outside their own door. Posted by: Anonymous What about those chocoate cake puddings you used to could buy. They made a chocolate cake with a pudding like topping over them, and Jiffy cake mix in Chocolate. Where did these items go? Posted by: Brenda Location: South Central KY Just like Corn Husker Lotion....used to be there, now it's not! Posted by: Gloria Location: gloriaproctor1998@yahoo.com I agree with "Teachers Lounge". Chris is just speaking the way he feels. Proper english & grammer is not required. And I am like you Chris it really gripes me when I can't find something that works for me. And some else decides for me that I didn't need it or want it. And it was removed from shelves. Try Sally's beauty supplies. Or try in the beauty shop in Wally World. I got something in there that sounded JUST like what you was using. Good luck. Posted by: Jerry Amongst numerous other grammatical errors, if the apostrophe shows ownership, then the quote "...Saturday morning's early with a bite of breakfast at Cracker Barrel," would be incorrect. There is no proof of ownership anywhere within that statement. Posted by: jerry Location: clasgow i need a job any job please help im 53 years old any suggestions Posted by: Brenda Location: Haywood I just looked thru the weather albumns. There has GOT to be a way to share those photos! They are absolutely wonderful! How gorgeous! They would make a great cd for wallpaper. I would love to have thewm on my screen. What a very talented bunch of neighbors we have! Posted by: Hugh Location: Teacher's Lounge Actually Steph, it is correct in the form Chris is using it. It is pretty much personification of ownership. The same way if Chris would have mentioned, "Sunday's paper" or "Tonight's Weather". There are more important issues going on in the world, other than pointing out grammar/puncuation errors. Posted by: tonya Location: tompkinsville i hate it when im forced to have nashville for my local stations on satellite, because i really miss chris allen! Posted by: Scotty Gore Location: Clarkson, Kentucky Hey Chris, I was watching the weather the other evening on t.v. during the 5 pm newscasts and saw something interesting. On our cable system here in Clarkson and Leitchfield we have stations from Bowling Green, Louisville, and Lexington...and usually flip back and forth and watch allof them to compare what all the meteorologists are saying. Anyway, I flipped the channel over to WKYT-27 in Lexington and they were saying something about weather radios. While the reporter was talking, Governor Beshear and some other guy holding a weather radio with you in the background. I was like....yeah....that's Chris Allen. Thought that was pretty cool. Posted by: Steph Location: BG Chris, I agree with your comments about stuff disappearing off the shelves. However, my beef this morning is the way you (and a great many other people) misused an apostrophe. When you talk about your Saturday mornings being started off @ Cracker Barrel, you didn't need the apostophe at the end of morning. It is a PLURAL word, not POSSESSIVE. For example, if you said, "We'll eat Saturday morning's breakfast at CB", that would be correct. More people do this. They also do it with things like CDs, the 70s, and PJs. These are plural, not possessive. It drives me nuts!!! It's simple grammar that I think I learned in in 4th or 5th grade. Posted by: anonymous Location: russell i know the feeling .i use to get melrose face cream at walmart .then it was about 1.00 a bottle then 1.25 and was the best to be found even cheap as it was then they stop getting it at all .i go online and could order it for around 8.00 now what about a jump like that ? i feel your pain Posted by: Angie Location: Smiths Grove Chris, I feel your pain. The same thing happens to me. For two or three years, my family and I enjoyed sugar-free Hawaiian Punch lemonade mix--you know, the kind like Kool-Aid. Then, I couldn't find it anywhere anymore. My husband even contacted the distributor, hoping maybe they had some in stock they'd be willing to sell us. Not only did they not have any, but they acted like they never had sold it. I kept the packaging from the last box I had just to prove I wasn't crazy (or did that only disprove that?) and that it DID exist! I even had friends looking in 3 states--but to no avail. Not the only product I've loved that disappeared, but the one with the most interesting story. Posted by: Chris Location: Bowling Green Yep Chris - I can relate - seems the kiss of death for a product is my enjoyment of it. That's good news for SPAM and various other mystery meat products. As a kid, I enjoyed deviled ham - then I read Upton Sinclair's book "The Jungle" and never quite got past the visuals. I now simply try not to get overly enthusiastic about or share the guilty pleasures of products that are to my liking. So far so good... : ) Sorry for the losses. |
