Crusade For Children 2009

(6/8/09) - Pictures from the Columbia and Rough River Lake area live remotes for the 56th Annual WHAS Crusade For Children

Many thanks to all the volunteer fire departments in Adair, Green, Grayson and Breckinridge counties for making our portion of the Crusade For Children live remotes from South Central Kentucky such a success!

This year, the 56th Crusade brought in $5,289,841 - that's a $40,000 increase over 2008!

Here are a few pictures from both the Columbia and Rough River Lake remote sites from this past Saturday and Sunday...

Here I am with Chief Jesse Pyle of the Harned Volunteer Fire Department at the Rough River live remote

A moment during the live remote in Columbia with the Breeding Volunteer Fire Deparment in Adair County

This is the legendary logo for Crusade For Children which is prominently displayed on one of the fire trucks at the Columbia live remote

Here I am talking live with Allen Johnson, chief of the Campbellsville Fire Department who will take over next year as the local fire coordinator for the Crusade.  To his right is his wife Angie and Linda Greenwell who (along with her husband Bill to my left) will retire this year after 33 years serving the Crusade.  God bless the Greenwells!!

Here I am talking with some of the Adair County school system along with some of the kids that have been helped by the Crusade including my good buddy Cody (in the blue shirt) who always looks forward to the live remote in Columbia each year

A lighthearted moment with Cody as he turns his back to the camera

Here we are at the Rough River Lake live remote on Sunday

Many thanks to the host fire deparment, Falls Of Rough Fire & Rescue for the great food and fellowship!  They pitch the tent, fire up the grill and make sure everyone has a great time at the Rough River live remote

Here is the Hardinsburg City Fire Department making a presentation to the Crusade

Clarkson Fire & Rescue was also part of the Rough River Lake live remote

Here is the East Grayson Fire Department with their collections for the Crusade

Here we are toward the end of the Rough River Lake live remote with members of the Leitchfield Fire Department.  What was so incredible to me is the outpouring this year by the citizens of the Grayson/Breckinridge county areas which were some of the hardest hit after the January ice storm - yet, they gave more money than last year to the Crusade which is an incredible testimony to the rest of the world as to the calibur of people we have in South Central Kentucky.  YOU ALL ROCK!!!  God bless ya!
