This is the front of duPont Lodge at Cumberland Falls State Park.  Rustic and gorgeous!

From the back patio at the duPont Lodge looking down the Cumberland River.

Another view of the front of duPont Lodge and the adjacent rooms.  A real great place to get away and just relax!

The famous Cumberland Falls - where during a sunny day, you can see a rainbow anytime - and on moonlit nights, one of the few places where you can see a moonbow!

A closeup of the falls and rainbow (or would that be a "spraybow" since it wasn't raining?)  Check out the guy fishing near the rocks and almost underneath the falls!

Shelia next to the Cumberland Falls.

Oh yeah...I love these little day trips!

Downstream (the falls are just to the left of this shot) the water is just as still as can be with massive rock formations dotting the riverside.

Me and Shelia at the Cumberland Falls overlook.

Another shot of the falls when the sun went behind the clouds.  Notice no rainbow...eh, spraybow!

There are several overlooks downstream where you can get a better, full on shot of Cumberland Falls.

What a keeper!  Shot through the trees hoping for another award winning desktop wallpaper pic!

The Cumberland Falls Visitor Center and Gift Shop full of great stuff and history!

Before we left, we stopped for a bite at the duPont Lodge and these guys wondered up next to our window.  They were hungry, too but decided to eat some bird seed that had fallen to the ground from a feeder.

If you'd like more information on Cumberland Falls State Park or the duPont Lodge, contact Kentucky State Parks.

Cumberland Falls is located in Whitley County on 25W halfway between Corbin and Williamsburg. Spent quite a bit of time there as a stduent at Cumberland College in Williamsburg back in the late 70's. Some very nice trails that make for a great day trip. Be certain to stay for the moonbow.

Chris, great pictures and thanks for sharing! Maybe you could plant a bug in the ear of the producers there at WBKO to do a series based on Kentucky destinations which would be very useful for all the WBKO viewing area to remind us that there are beautiful Kentucky destinations all over the state for weekend get-aways and vacations.

Few places in the world frequently feature this phenomenon. Cumberland Falls near Williamsburg, Kentucky, U.S.A.; Waimea, Hawaii, U.S.A.; Trans-Ili Alatau, Kazakhstan; upper and lower Yosemite falls and Victoria Falls on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe are widely known for moonbows.
