Last Sunday, my family enjoyed an afternoon at Jackson’s Orchard with our friends, Derek, Amber and their one year-old daughter, Cameron. It’s our favorite place to pick out pumpkins.
When we got there, Isaac wanted to jump around in the inflatable. There was a never-ending line of kids wanting to be as bouncy as Tigger. I had to hold Isaac back from attempting to cut in line. Once he saw the hay play area, he quickly shifted interest to jumping around in hay. I know my sinuses would not approve, so Polly and I switched kids.
Jonas loves animals and is always doing animal noises, like "moo" and "hee-haw." Amber and Derek joined us and we took the kids to pet the animals. Jonas loved them. He would pat their head and stick his finger out, sometimes getting it up one of the animal’s nostrils. Jackson’s Orchard had cows, llamas, a pig, goats, sheep, a wallaby, bunnies, and Jonas’ favorite, the little donkey. Soon Isaac and Polly joined us in looking at the animals. Although the kid’s didn’t ride the horses, they did enjoy watching the kids riding them.
Isaac was really looking forward to an apple slushy. He had talked about it for a week. Again, the line was long. While Polly and Amber waited with the little ones, Isaac finally got to go hop around for five minutes in the inflatable. After bouncing some energy out, Isaac got a face painting of a T-rex dinosaur.
We met the gang over at a picnic pavilion area to enjoy the orchard’s tasty treats. We got fried apple pies with vanilla ice cream and apple cider slushies. Yummy!
After filling our bellies with apple-y goodness we let the kids pick out our Halloween pumpkins. It was humorous seeing Jonas going around trying to pick up pumpkins that weighed twice as much as he did. Jonas and Isaac finally settled on pumpkins they could actually carry.
Jackson’s Orchard is our Fall Family Tradition. Isaac enjoys it for the giant inflatable and the apple slushies. Jonas and Cameron enjoy it for the animals. Polly enjoys it for the "autumn atmosphere." I enjoy it because Jackson’s Orchard is a good excuse to get out with my family and friends. Well...there’s also the apple butter.
