Breckenridge's County's Dick Frymire is back with his outlook for the upcoming winter!  Take a look:

- Oct. 8 -- Light frost.

- Oct. 16 -- Killing frost.

- Nov. 6 -- Flurries.

- Nov. 13 -- Flurries.

- Nov. 20 -- Tracking snow.

- Nov. 25 -- 1-inch snow.

- Nov. 30 -- 1-inch snow.

- Dec. 7 -- 2-inch snow.

- Dec. 23 -- 1-inch snow.

- Jan. 7-Feb. 7 -- Very cold.

- Jan. 15 -- 6-inch snow.

- Jan. 16 -- Coldest day; -12 degrees.

- Jan. 23 -- 5-inch snow.

- Jan. 29 -- 3-inch snow and sleet.

- Feb. 2 -- 1-inch snow.

- Feb. 22 -- 2-inch snow.

- Feb. 25 -- First robin.

- March 8 -- Flurries.

- March 20 -- 1-inch snow.

- March 29 -- 68 degrees.

- April 2 -- Last snow flurries.

NOTE: With each date, give or take two days. Also, if a heavy fog comes in before nightfall and lingers until 11 p.m. on any of the first 10 days of January, winter will be worse than anticipated.

Now, I'm not going to go dish out any specifics with this winter yet (check back with me in November!), but there are SOME indications this winter could be colder overall than last.  Keep in mind, last winter was prety mild generally speaking with little/no significant snow/ice events until late February and early March.  My initial hunch is that we shouldn't have to wait as long for wintry precip this time out.  I will also tell you that the National Weather Service states there is a 55% chance of near to below normal temperatures for the lower 48 this coming season.  Stay tuned!

Shane

Used your forecast for years with my 4th graders. They loved it and so did my Bowling Green, KY father. Looked forward to Byron Crawford's article in August, but because he retired, had a hard time finding the forecast but finally did. Artile is now on the fridge so we can enjoy it again this year. Thanks so much.

there was a time when on the farm we could predict our winters to come by watching for the signs,,such as the weeds in the fall being really high,,, or the walnut trees being over-loaded,or the hornets nest being built up high,, meaning winter was going to be a cold, and snowy, and the opposite if it was built low. there were so many things to watch for ,, and the older people who could,, and did predict the coming winter was hardly ever wrong, by way of just simply watching mother nature.
