I know we're still two weeks away from Thanksgiving, but I thought I'd serve up a little food for thought for you "snow birds".  This is especially timely since there is a chance of a little bit of the white stuff in our forecast for the weekend.

Significant snows are EXTREMELY RARE for South-Central KY before December 1st.  If you read my last post about the White Halloween, you know that 1993 was one of those unusual happenings.  But do you know when our last measurable snowfall occured during the month of November?  1977.  Yes, it has been awhile.  That's when Bowling Green picked up 3" of snow during Thanksgiving weekend.  Funny how it seems some seasons give us "precursors" of what's to come, as the Winter of 1977-78 was quite severe in these parts.  The Winter of 1993-94 was no slouch for snow-loving folks, either.

Before I run, I want to respond to a reply from a reader with regards to the last post.  Doris, that early-season snow in 1966 happened JUST AFTER Halloween on November 2nd.  This caught the area by surprise, with the entire I-65/31W corridor from Nashville to Louisville picking up at least several inches of snow.  Amazingly, some locations picked up as much as a foot of heavy, wet snow from this very unusual storm.  Glad you reminded me of that one!

Until next time,

SH
