Still here in Indianapolis, where Bowling Green East Little League is through to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Regional... and very impressively at that. East scored 11 sixth-inning runs to beat previously undefeated Jeffersonville, IN 16-6. East now takes the top seed in tomorrow's semifinals, where our boys play the state champs from Ohio for a berth in the regional final.
Star of the day: Nacarius Shannon. Rarely will you find a player at any level have the type of all-around day Shannon had against Jeffersonville. He started for East on the mound, allowing one hit and one run in 2 2/3 innings and striking out eight (every out he recorded was a strikeout). He also went 5-for-5 at the plate, doubling twice, scoring four runs and driving in two more. Safe to say he wins the team MVP award today. He pitched too much to be available for tomorrow's game... but expect him to take the ball Saturday if East reaches the finals here in Indianapolis.
So it's a semifinal matchup between East and Ohio Friday at 6:30 central... hope to have an update to the blog post-game tomorrow night.
