Happy Friday to everyone! Plenty of interesting games this weekend on the high school gridiron. Here are some of the matchups for week two.
Franklin-Simpson (1-0) at Warren Central (1-0)
Skill players will be abundant in this one. Both teams won by double digits last week and look to start the season 2-0. The Wildcats went on the road and picked up a 33-15 win at Monroe County while the Dragons earned a very nice 42-22 victory against Trousdale County, Tennessee. Warren Central senior Eric Brown looked great in the backfield against the Yellow Jackets and it looks like he will fill the void left by Cortez Barber just fine. The Dragons' task will be to contain Darius and Jerrell Wickware. I was very impressed with Central's performance last Friday and I think they keep the ball rolling tonight.
Winner: Warren Central
Barren County (1-0) at Warren East (1-0)
Both the Trojans and Raiders earned shutout victories in week one. It took Barren County about a quarter and half to really get moving on offense in the TJ Samson Bowl. Meanwhile, the Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. A 2-0 start for either team would be huge considering how much the Trojans and Raiders struggled last year. I'm going with the home team.
Winner: Warren East
Bowling Green (1-0) vs. Henry Clay (0-1)
Once the Purples starting clicking at the Rafferty's Bowl, there was no turning back. After a sluggish first quarter, the Purples looked like the No. 1 team in Class 5A, beating ACS 48-0. Henry Clay's season opener did not go quite as well. The Blue Devils were on the receiving end of a 56-6 loss at the hands of John Hardin. This game is on a neutral field at Lafayette High School. Even if this were a true home game for Henry Clay, I like the Purples improving to 2-0.
Winner: Bowling Green
South Warren (0-1) at Logan County (0-1)
The Spartans and Cougars are looking for their first win of the season. South Warren's first varsity game was a tough one, losing 36-0 at the Rafferty's Bowl to Warren East. On the other hand, the Cougars lost a tight game to Butler County 29-27. The Spartans should score their first varsity touchdown on Friday, but that may not be enough to beat Logan County.
Winner: Logan County
