Happy Friday! Tonight marks week six of the high school football season. Several local teams will try to remain undefeated while others are in search of their first win of the season. Here are my predictions for tonight:
Greenwood (2-3) at Warren Central (5-0) - You can get into trouble comparing scores against common opponents, but the disparity in the following comparison is alarming. The Gators lost at home to Franklin-Simpson 56-0. The Dragons defeated the Wildcats at home 34-6. That does not bode well for Greenwood.
Winner - Warren Central
Barren County (2-3) at Bowling Green (5-0) - The Purples were up by two scores in the blink of an eye last week against Owensboro. History could easily repeat itself tonight.
Winner - Bowling Green
Caverna (1-4) at South Warren (0-5) - Can the Spartans pick up their first ever varsity win tonight? I say yes.
Winner - South Warren
Russellville (3-2) at Franklin-Simpson (4-1) - The Panthers have reeled of three straight wins (Hopkins County Central, South Warren, Todd County Central), but those teams are a combined 0-13. The competition turns up a notch tonight against the Wildcats, a team which appears to be hitting its stride.
Winner - Franklin-Simpson
Monroe County (2-3) at Hart County (5-0) - This is the first district meeting between the Falcons and Raiders since 2006. Hart County clearly has the better record, but Monroe County has the better schedule. If the Raiders can knock off the Falcons tonight, I'll start believing.
Winner - Monroe County
Other notables games:
Butler County (5-0) at Owensboro Catholic (4-0) - Winner: Owensboro Catholic
Edmonson County (5-0) at Logan County (3-2) - Winner: Edmonson County
Clinton County (0-5) at Metcalfe County (0-5) - Winner: Metcalfe County
Glasgow (5-0) at Somerset (3-1) - Winner: Glasgow
Warren East (4-1) at LaRue County (2-3) - Winner: LaRue County
