WKU sophomore Antonio Andrews made some strong comments last weekend on Twitter. Now he is paying the price.
Head coach Willie Taggart informed the media Monday Andrews will not play this weekend against Florida Atlantic, in part due to Andrews' tweets.
"We do not do that here at WKU," Taggart said. "We do not tweet anything that is going to disgrace our football team. I'm sure he didn't mean it in a way that it was put there, but regardless he put it out there and we do not do that here."
"That's rule number one and he violated our rule. We do not do that in our program and when that happens, consequences happen."
Taggart continued.
"I was disappointed because he did not play in that game (Middle Tennessee) and those guys went out there and fought their tails off and wont the game. There is no one individual bigger than this football team, including me".
Andrews tweeted the following Saturday afternoon:
"One thing I can say bout Andrews went on to tweet: "Same ppl who said we suck and will never win a game are the same mf trying party wit us and saying we knew y'all could do it! Andrews apologized for those comments several hours later. Taggart allows his players to use social media, but cautions them to be mindful of what they post. "Our policy is you do not do anything that is going to bring a negative perspective on our football team," said Taggart. "Use it in a positive way and if you can't do that, and you want to be on our football team, you are not going to use it." "I was very disappointed in it and I'm sure you won't see that anymore, not if he wants to be on this football team." Andrews sat out Thursday's game at Middle Tennessee with an ankle injury. He leads the team in kick return yardage, averaging more than 29 yards per return.#UKfans is they loyal. No matter how sorry they team is they always support them. Can't say that bout #WKUfans smh"#FallBack"
