Crime Stoppers: Bicycle Thefts

Bicyclists--keep your ride locked up!

So many bicycles have been stolen recently, the thefts have made it on this week's Crime Stoppers.

Authorities say bicycle thefts have not slowed down since the summer peak season so they are the focus of the Oct. 3 "Crime of the Week."

Bowling Green Police are investigating more bicycle thefts.

Earlier this year, police reported several bicycles reported stolen from porches, carports and backyards.

In recent years, July and August have been the months when most bicycles were stolen.

This year, the thefts started early and haven't slowed down.

As of this week, 70 bicycles have been reported stolen in Bowling Green this year.

If you know anything about these bicycle thefts, please call Crime Stoppers at 781-CLUE or
click here to get to their website.

You could get up to $1,000 for your anonymous tip.

And as Crime Stoppers Board Member Paul Durbin says, "Crime doesn't pay, Crime Stoppers does!"

Some simple steps can lessen the chances of your bicycle being stolen:

  • Keep your bike in a locked garage or shed

  • Keep it out of public view

  • Secure it to an immovable object

  • Write down the brand, color and serial number to give police if it is stolen.
