Bowling Green Police say con men are targeting senior citizens with blacktopping and driveway resurfacing scams. The scam artists reportedly tell the victims they have materials left over from another job, and offer to resurface their driveway at a low rate.
The victim agrees, but then is charged more than the agreed upon amount, and is often too afraid not to pay the workers. Many times the resurfacing material is nothing more than used motor oil, or an inferior type of blacktopping asphalt.
If you have any information on these scams or these con artists, call 781-CLUE, or click on this Crime Stoppers to go to their website. You could earn up to $1,000 for your anonymous tip.
Tips to keep from being scammed:
1. Deal only with local, licensed, reputable businesses
2. Never let another person fill out your check
3. If victimized, call your bank and stop payment on the check
4. Keep a description of the worker, his vehicle, and license number
