The two communities have recently become the subject of confusion, and a few major headaches. The omission of the word "county" in a congressional bill has delayed a federal grant intended for a YMCA in Frankfort. The mix-up has also given false hope to the city of Franklin.
Former Franklin mayor Jim Arnold, who also heads the YMCA project, told WBKO in April he was notified the city would receive $250,000 for a new YMCA. Now, it looks like Franklin County will get the money instead.
"Who made that mistake, I don't know. We thought, and were told twice, that money was ours. We are very disappointed," stated Arnold.
Plans are still underway for a new YMCA in Franklin. Arnold says it just may take a little longer to get the funding. YMCA board members are hoping to purchase eight to ten acres of land in the near future.
