Since the last week of April, a number of storm drainage grates have been stolen from Bowling Green streets.
These large metal grates allow drainage for water run-off.
The average weight of these grates is over 100 pounds, and it would take more than one person to steal one.
These metal grates are very expensive but only bring pennies
when recycled. The City of Bowling Green is now marking the grates to identify the stolen property.
Not only does stealing them cost the taxpayers money, but is a serious safety concern to pedestrians, bicyclists, and automobile drivers.
The estimated loss of these stolen grates is $1800.
