Just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19th, the Bowling Green Fire
Department was dispatched to a construction vehicle fire at the McLean
Hall parking lot on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
Firefighters reported that a Genie Boom Lift used to repair or replace
light fixtures around campus was engulfed in flames. A second Boom Lift parked next to it was also damaged.
Arson investigators determined the gas cap had been removed, and a one dollar bill was placed in the neck of the gas tank and intentionally ignited, which caused two explosions and the fire.
Damage to the two pieces of equipment is estimated at over $100,000.
