Super Saturday Balloon Launch Helps Kids Learn

Nov. 17 was the last day of learning for elementary and middle school students participating in Western Kentucky University's Super Saturday event.

The four-weekend program is sponsored by the Center for Gifted Studies at WKU.

The students got the chance to construct hot air balloons made out of tissue paper and bound by glue, teaching them about science and also teamwork.

Kids from all over Kentucky took part to learn about various subjects like art, foreign language and the sciences.

"A couple of weeks ago they were building speakers, before that they were brewing their own root beer and so that and when they understand how it works, we're really after the excitement through screams and the yells," said Rico Tyler, WKU faculty member.
