A Kentucky lawmaker will take over a bill to criminalize sex between teachers and students.
State Representative Kathy Stein, House Judiciary Committee chairwoman, took responsibility for the legislation after its originator resigned to take a job in Governor Steve Beshear's administration.
The proposed legislation would criminalize sex between teachers and older teens who are not protected by Kentucky's age-of-consent law.
From 2001 to 2005, more than 2500 educators have lost their teaching licenses nationwide for sexual misconduct allegations.
