Shopping for Last Minute School Supplies

Some kids may be asking where their summer went, which means it's time to shop for some much needed supplies.

And with school right around the corner, some are trying to get everything on their list as quick as possible.

"I'm out school shopping actually for my classroom, finishing up, and for myself," said Melissa Barbour, a teacher at Eastern Elementary.

Every student needs basically the same school supplies.

For many that means parents are grabbing school lists, but for one teacher...

"Actually in Barren County, we have a no-supply list," said Barbour. "They give us funding, and the teachers, we purchase the materials for the students."

Which Barbour believes is a good idea.

"That way the kids have the same things, and they're not bickering or arguing over what their friend has or doesn't have," said Barbour.

Some parents out this weekend weren't shopping last minute for all supplies, just a few.

"So far we've gotten the supplies, the pencils and papers, and right now we're looking for a mesh backpack and a lunch box," said Kami Vincent, mother of a second grader.

And even with school starting soon, shopping wasn't bad for this parent due to a shorter supply list.

"Not too bad this year," said Vincent. "It wasn't like I expected it to be. Last year it was longer. She's going into second grade, and first grade seemed like it was a lot more extensive."

And with school supplies accounted for, some are excited about the new school year.

"Maybe earlier recesses and lunches," said Christopher Sadvary, a fourth grader.

And the teachers are ready too after preparing throughout the summer.

"It takes probably a month," said Barbour. "We have to prepare our classroom. We have to box up everything at the end of school and put it away. We have to go back when the classrooms are ready and unpack and make sure everything is ready and set to go."

School for both Warren County and Bowling Green begins this Tuesday, August 5.
