The Lexington Herald-Leader says an extra $500,000 is going to the Robinson Scholars Program which provides academic scholarships to students in need in 29 eastern Kentucky counties.
The Robinson Scholars Program works with promising students throughout high school, offering them full scholarships to UK.
That means UK Athletics now gives $1.7-million annually for non-athletic scholarships.
The school says the extra funding should help UK award scholarships to three students per county.
