Good discipline + good planning + good teaching = good learning. That's the motto of Greenwood High School, and it's a philosophy that's served them well.

Greenwood has just been named one of the top 23 model schools in the country by the International Center for Leadership in Education.

It’s sixth period at Greenwood High, and Penny White is reviewing her classroom for Tuesday's English exam. This crunch time just happens to be taking place in a school that's been named one of the 23 best in the nation.

"It's not just about test scores," says White. "We, as a faculty, just want to make sure that these students reach their full potential."

One hall is even covered in over five hundred contracts from freshmen promising to make the grade. It's this emphasis on success that caught the attention of the International Center for Leadership in Education.

"The co-curricular activities, the extra curricular activities, they're all superb," says Greenwood senior, Ryan Cummings. "I would give them no less than an A+ rating."

Of course, students at Greenwood are equipped with traditional study materials in addition to the latest technology. But faculty insists that it's a focus on the future that's keeping students sharp.

"If we take care of that, and if we push students to prepare for the world of work or to the military or to college, then the test scores will take care of themselves," explains Greenwood principal, Mark Davis.

And now that Greenwood is a model school, it's just a matter of sticking to a winning formula.

"We just want to try and uphold that honor and continue to do well and make sure our students are successful," says White.

Principal Mark Davis adds that of the more than 1,600 students at Greenwood High, 90-percent are on the college bound diploma track.
