The Advocate-Messenger of Danville reported Tuesday, the Garrard County Fiscal Court has approved its half of the funding for a feasibility study, examining the potential for a shared jail with Lincoln County, its neighbor to the southwest.

Lincoln County had already given the nod to the study funds.

Garrard County Judge-Executive John Wilson says his county hasn't had a jail for several years, and houses a majority of its prisoners in Lincoln County.

But he says the Lincoln County jail is regularly over capacity, forcing the county to take prisoners farther south to Casey County.

The Lincoln jail, a converted 1941 office building, has other serious problems, including an inadequate ventilation system.
