Today the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a settlement granting Atmos Energy Corporation a three-percent rate hike. The increase is $3.55 million less than the utility requested. It had wanted a four-point-eight percent increase.
Under the settlement, the monthly customer charge will increase from $9.35 to $12.50 while the gas delivery charge will decrease from $1.19 to $1.10 per 1,000 cubic feet.
The PSC says a typical residential customer that uses an average of 5,000 cubic feet of gas per month will pay $2.70 more.
The new rate hike takes effect June 1.
Atmos Energy serves about 172,300 customers in 38 counties in western and central Kentucky.
