From now on when you visit downtown Bowling Green, you will officially be in City Center.
That's the new name for all of downtown Bowling Green, and hopefully it will attract people to one of Bowling Green's most historic areas.
"City Center is a brand new naming convention for the entire downtown area, and we're kind of excited about it," said Doug Gorman, Chairman of the Warren County Downtown Economic Development Authority.
City Center is not just Fountain Square or the TIF District, or SKyPAC.
It's everything from Western Kentucky University to the river.
"Now we have a performing arts center," said Lynn O'Keefe, owner of The Gallery at 916 on the square. "We have a stadium, so I think we needed some sort of designation that said this is what we are. This is what we are. We're the City Center."
They believe it will be a great way to bring more business to the entire downtown area.
"It will be a wonderful marketing tool," said O'Keefe. "It'll also be a great way to have, not only out of towners, but we have quite a few people who move to Bowling Green from other places, and I think it's a nice way to make them feel included in what's going on. It kind of gives it, you know, when you give the area a name, people feel a little bit more included in the activities that happen in it."
"It's important for people not from here or other businesses not from the state that might want to relocate to Bowling Green, and City Center will be a place for them to come to for employment opportunities," said Gorman.
Some people we spoke to were confused with having a new name, but others are pleased they now have a name for the entire area.
"This is a nice way to say to them, 'Here's where you are. You're in the center of Bowling Green. You're in the City Center,'" said O'Keefe. "So it will help the out of town people a great deal."
"The tagline is 'Uniquely BG,'" said Gorman. "Really when you talk about uniqueness, downtown Bowling Green is the most unique portion of our community, and so we're excited about that. It encompasses every aspect of downtown."
They also revealed a website called gotoubg.com where individuals and organizations can connect with City Center online.
It will be launched in a few weeks.
