ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) --The Elizabethtown City Council took some of the bang out of the small explosives Monday, when it voted to prohibit the ignition of fireworks between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m., and on city property, except in pre-approved professional displays.
Mayor Tim Walker told The News-Enterprise the intent of the restrictions is to curtail use of fireworks in residential areas during late hours, which could disturb residents. As a result, the ordinance states no one shall be allowed to ignite them once the restricted hour falls, meaning the city is expected to comply, too.
But Walker said the restrictions should not throw a damper on city plans, because officials try to plan fireworks displays at dusk and finish them before curfew.
