Farmers RECC Wins Third Governor's Safety Award

Glasgow, Ky. (June 6, 2012) - Secretary of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, Mark Brown presented Farmers with the Governor’s Safety and Health Award. “Farmers RECC has set an example for all Kentucky businesses and we hope they follow in your steps,” Brown said.

The award is particularly noteworthy considering the type of work Farmers employees are involved in daily. Workers travel across all types of terrain, climb tall poles and work around thousands of volts of electricity on a daily basis. In addition to those hazards, office workers can be injured as easily as the employees that work in the field.

“We are celebrating business as usual today,” said Bill Prather, Farmers president and CEO. “This award shows that we are an organization where safety is second nature and we are proud of our employees for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.”

Farmers RECC employees worked for three years with no lost time accidents, and also received a safety award from their statewide organization, the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperative to recognize their record.

“It’s important for everyone to stay safe at work,” said Leah Holliday, a Customer Service Representative at Farmers RECC and a member of the Safety Committee. “We want everyone to go home to their families at the end of the day.”

Farmers RECC was formed in 1938 and is owned by the members they serve. Farmers employs 67 people and provides electric service to over 24,500 members of eight Kentucky counties across 3,323 miles of line and 61,612 poles. Today more than 900 electric cooperatives provide reliable and technologically advanced service to 40 million Americans, while maintaining a consumer-focused approach to business.
