FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- President Obama made the declaration on Monday, which opened the way for local governments and some nonprofit groups, to get federal funding on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and for repairing damaged infrastructure.
Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator W. Craig Fugate appointed a federal coordinating officer for the affected area.
Obama had previously amended disaster declarations resulting from severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding since April 22 in Kentucky, making 70 counties eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency emergency loans.
The latest declaration is for areas damaged from June 19 to 23.
