The state has reduced funding to a non-profit agency in Louisville that provides services for young blind children.
Advocates say the move will limit the services that Visually Impaired Preschool Services can provide to families across Kentucky.
The cuts involve funding that the organization uses to send teachers to the homes of blind children whose families need assistance teaching them skills to help them learn.
Diane Nelson, the program's executive director, says "the impact is that we won't be able to serve them as often."
Dr. Steve Davis is the state official who oversees funding for VIPS. He told The Courier-Journal that the tight state budget has forced him to manage repeated cuts in public health funding. He called the decision to cut the VIPS program "gut-wrenching."
