Southern Kentucky will soon be losing a beloved public figure and friend.

"United Way of Southern Kentucky" President Doug Eberhart announced he is resigning to become President of Kentucky's United Way.

"Bowling Green has been true to my heart, and will always be true to my heart," says Doug Eberhart.

He laughs as he chats about his favorite memories here.

"I loved the day of caring, you know we took the day and started it a couple of years ago with the partnership with WBKO and all the other businesses here. You know in one day we're providing help to thousands upon thousands of individuals and nonprofits..and building that to where there is a thousand people participating in a single day. Also feed the need, where we go out and collect food for individuals," says Eberhart.

Safe Harbor director Melissa Whitley says she'll never forget seeing Eberhart help out at Balloons, Tunes, and BBQ.

"I think that is something that sticks out to me, that he's at the events and willing to get his hands dirty too," says Whitley.

It's his giving heart and fun personality that some say have helped shape this community.

"Oh he's funny, he's always cracking jokes and making you feel supported," says Nickie Jones of the Family Enrichment Center.

"He makes you feel very comfortable, very at ease and he makes you want to give," says BRASS assistant director, Pam Hurt.

Eberhart began working in Southern Kentucky almost a decade ago.

Local organizations say he's done so much in that time.

"We wouldn't be where we are today, I mean he's done a lot for all the community partners, he's really built and brought in more fund raising money," adds Hurt.

Eberhart says he will dearly miss his time here.

"The community has helped raise my children and raise the family."

Eberhart will step down from his position near the end of the month.

He will move to Louisville to take on the job as the state President of the United Way.
