Funeral Home: Frank & Bright Funeral Home
Delta June “Jean” Ferguson, 83, of Flora, Ill., died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Heritage Woods in Flora.
Jean was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Hoosier Township, Ill., to Paul H. and Beulah Mae (McCraw) Erwin. She married Jimmie Ferguson on June 28, 1947, in Morganfield. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1975. She later met Glen Dawkins and together they shared a very special relationship for more than 30 years until his death on Feb. 10, 2012.
Delta will be remembered best for her dedication and expression of love and care for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith, took great care in making her home a welcoming place, and enjoyed sewing and crafting. She had worked for the International Shoe Factory, was a waitress, and was a caretaker of both the young and the elderly. During the last 30 years she enjoyed traveling with Glen to places like Hawaii and Puerto Rico, and throughout the United States. Delta enjoyed visitors in her home and believed “the more the merrier.” She opened her home and heart, especially when demonstrating her ability for making a good meal, and always telling houseguests goodbye with a genuine, “Come back!”
She is survived by four sons, Jimmie Ferguson (Jean) of Bowling Green, Bob Ferguson (Joni) of Olney, Ill., Chuck Ferguson (Sue) of Lawrenceville, Ill., and Randy Ferguson (Jacque) of Flora, Ill.; two brothers, Don Erwin (Glenda) of Alto, Ga., and Jerry Erwin (Donna) of Olney, Ill.; a sister, Marilyn Cockerell of Clay City, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Dale, George, Jack and Jim Erwin; and a sister, Erba Cosner.
The funeral service for Jean Ferguson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, with Darren Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Clay County Cancer Crusaders, and they will be accepted at the funeral home. An online guest book is available at www.frankandbright.com.
