Sarah Frances (Bunch) Shockley, 86, of Bowling Green, formerly of Fountain Run, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in Bowling Green.

The Farmers City, Ill., native was the daughter of the late Charlie Howard and Flossie Victoria (Williams) Bunch. She married her husband of 54 years, Wallace J. Shockley, on May 30, 1953, in Andalusia, Ala. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 2008. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Charlyne Ogden.

Sarah graduated from Glasgow High School in 1943 and retired from Washington Overall Manufacturing Company in Scottsville. She was a member of Fountain Run First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the WMU, and the church treasurer for 10 years. She was a 50-year member of the Fountain Run Woman’s Club, serving in numerous leadership roles, and also a member of the Flippin Homemakers. She was selected Woman of the Year for the Woman’s Club.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Fountain Run First Baptist Church, with Brother Hermon Wilkins and Brother Ron Norrod officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain Run Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fountain Run Funeral Home, and she will lie in state at the church after 9 a.m. Friday till service time at 11 a.m.

Her survivors include children, Vana Vincent (Perry) of Bowling Green and Dr. Alben Shockley (Joanna) of Owensboro; sisters, Ruth West of Hartwell, Ga., Nettie Furlong of Glasgow, Betty Lyons (Earl) of Lutz, Fla., and Lucy Gray (Marshall) of Austin; brother-in-law, Bruce Ogden of Groveland, Fla.; five grandsons, Adam Vincent (Andrea) of Bowling Green, and Luke, James, Paul and Bryce Shockley, all of Owensboro; great-grandson, James Vincent; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Fountain Run Cemetery or First Baptist Church.
