George Thomas Thompson, 97, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at his home in Bowling Green.
He was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Selma, Ind., to the late Morris Thompson and Glenda Mills Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Maxine Hitchcock Thompson; a daughter, Teresa Thompson Shaw; and two brothers, Robert Victor and Howard Wayne Thompson.
Mr. Thompson spent his career as an executive with various rubber manufacturing companies, retiring in 1982 from Waukesha Rubber Co. in Waukesha, Wis. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Order.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Thompson Funk and son-in-law Dr. William Henry Funk of Bowling Green and Deborah Thompson Huth of Columbia, N.C.; a sister, Rosalie Thompson Williamson of Valparaiso, Ind.; grandchildren, Tracie Miller Jones, Gary Thomas Miller, William Henry Funk III, Mary Mills Funk Halpin and Matthew Thompson Huth; great-grandchildren, James Dean Miller, Matthew Finn Huth, William Kane Halpin and Walter Cassius Halpin; and a great-great-grandchild, Teresa Elizabeth Marie Miller.
The family is so grateful to have had compassionate caregivers from Home Instead and Hospice.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Compton Chapel at State Street United Methodist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society Animal Shelter, 1925 Old Louisville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101 or Hospice of Southern Kentucky Inc., 5872 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42104.
