Mrs. Callie Charlene Tallant, 92, of Bowling Green, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at The Medical Center.
The Watertown, Tenn., native was born July 24, 1920, to the late Charles Henry Blye and Myrtle Ona Johnston Blye. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis R. Tallant; a sister, Delma Frances Baker; a son, Donald Lee Tallant; and a daughter, Phyllis Faye Tallant.
Mrs. Tallant was a graduate of Girls High School in Louisville, graduated with honors from Spencerian College of Louisville and attended WMU Training School in Louisville. She was certified in Sunday School, Church Training, Youth Leadership and was a Bible Drills Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention. In addition, Mrs. Tallant was a faculty member at Ridgecrest and Cedarmore Southern Baptist Convention Conference Centers, Financial Secretary/Treasurer for West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists, Secretary to the Executive for Warren Association of Baptists, Director of Social Ministries for Warren Association of Baptists and was a member of Kentucky Women’s Missionary Union Executive Board and the Kentucky Baptist Nominating Committee.
Francis and Charlene were married for 70 blessed years before his death on April 9, 2010. During her entire married life, she served by her husband’s side in local church, associational and state Southern Baptist ministries capacities. The states of their ministry activity were homed in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Travel was a love of Francis and Charlene as they visited all 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. Additionally, as a couple they led tours to the Bible Lands six times, Hawaii four times, China, Australia, New Zealand and the Fiji Islands, as well as a tour around the world.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green, with a graveside service at 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday at Jellico Cemetery in Jellico, Tenn. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tallant is survived by a sister, Dorothy Marie Robinson; two sons, Francis Rodman Tallant Jr. of Bowling Green and Charles Phillip Tallant of Lenoir City, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, Jeremy Baker Cannon of Brussels, Belgium, Anthony Brent Charlton of Maryville, Tenn., Francis Rodman Tallant III of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jarrod Lee Tallant of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Christopher Micah Tallant of Wesley Chapel, Phoebe Renee Wilkins of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Madeline Paige Tallant of Murfreesboro, Cody Lynn Cox of Knoxville, Tenn., Caitlin Shiann Pratt of Knoxville, Gary Wayne Cherry of Scottsville, Robert Lee Cherry of Bowling Green, Erica Danielle Graves of San Antonio and Matthew Nathanial West of Norfolk, Va.; and 16 great-grandchildren.
