Mr. Albert W. Dennis, 69, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at 1:55 p.m. at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Franklin First United Methodist Church.
Al was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Panama City, Panama, to the late Albert P. Dennis Jr. of Richmond, Va., and the late Ruby Nora Smith Dennis of Lima, Peru.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Daniels Dennis; his daughter, Ashley Dennis Hovan of Florence; his grandson, Jack Hovan; and his loving son-in-law, Nick Hovan.
Al was a member of First United Methodist Church. Although retired for several years, he may best be remembered for his work with AmeriCorps’ Kentucky Reads program with the Simpson County School System and in his role as director of Simpson County’s Community Education Program. He worked in concert with many interested Simpson County parents to develop a T-ball program and to formulate the beginnings of our county’s soccer program. Al also worked for many years on the A.B.L.E. board. Those who met or knew Al will always remember his bright, friendly, warm-hearted personality. His positive greetings and welcoming smile will be greatly missed.
