Robert Owens Barnes, 87, of Rockfield, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his residence. The Rib Lake, Wis., native was the son of the late Mae Ellen McLeod Barnes and Alfred Thomas West Barnes. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Margaret Canniff Barnes; one brother, Donald McLeod Barnes; and one sister, June Ellen Barnes Stimm.
Mr. Barnes was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and worked as a mechanical engineer. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a WWII Army Air Corps veteran.
Survivors include one son, Robert H. Barnes and his wife, Susan, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Kathleen Barnes and her husband, Bob Cates, of Rockfield, and Barbara Airhart of Florida; four grandchildren, Jo Elizabeth Barnes of Knoxville, Danielle Marie Barnes of Memphis, Tenn., and Christopher Airhart and Nathan Airhart, both of Florida.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday will be at his home in Rockfield, with a memorial service in Wisconsin at a later date. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
