Thomas Ben “Tom” Cornwell, 89, of St. Matthews in Louisville, died Dec. 10, 2012, in Louisville.

The Warren County native was a retired principal from South Park Elementary School in the Jefferson County School System and had 34 years of service, including in Allen and Nelson counties. He was a World War II veteran and obtained degrees in 1950 and 1953 from Western Kentucky University.

Mr. Cornwell has resided in the Louisville area for more than 60 years and was a Baptist. He was a member of NEA, KRTA and JCRTA. In 1972, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include a nephew and his family, Quentin Reynolds (Karen), great-nephews, Tate and Brett Reynolds, and great-great nephew, Brayden Reynolds, all of Burlington. Also surviving are numerous cousins and extended relatives in Allen and Warren counties, and two special friends from Louisville, Michael Harrod and Don Hartley, who have cared for him the past several years.

A thanksgiving and memorial service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the J. C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green. Visitation will begin Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial in the Fairview Cemetery.
