Funeral Home: Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel
Ray Edwin Johnson went home to be with the Lord at 4:40 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his home. He was 76 years old.

A Hardin County native, Ray was the son of the late Albert and Pauline Johnson and was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Johnson.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Sarah; his daughter, Pamela Felts and her husband, Donald, and their two daughters, Karlie Rae and Emma Brooke; a stepdaughter and stepson, Jennifer Triplett and Mark Triplett and his wife, Pat, of Tennessee, and stepdaughter, Gayle Pava of Bowling Green and her three sons; two sisters, Carole Cook and her husband, Wendell, of Elizabethtown, and Linda Tweedy and her husband, Donald, of Bowling Green; a sister-in-law, Nancy Calvert; and several nieces and nephews.

Ray graduated from the University of Kentucky with a master’s degree in agriculture and then attended North Carolina State where he received his Ph.D. He worked at the University of Illinois for several years and then began his 30-year tenure at Western Kentucky University, moving up the ladder quickly to become a professor of agriculture and also served as acting department head. After retiring from WKU in 1997, he enjoyed getting back to cows, farming, traveling and quality time with friends and family, especially his precious grandchildren and wife.

We acknowledge the tremendous care and support given through Hospice and Home Instead caregivers. Sarah is especially grateful for the hand of the Lord in every facet of her dear husband’s journey over the weeks, months and years.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at White Stone Quarry Baptist Church, 2764 Blue Level Road, for those who cannot attend on Friday. Visitation will be also be Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church, with memorial service at 1 p.m.
