Yvonne Vincent Turner, 72, of Bowling Green, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her residence at 11:50 a.m.
The Brownsville native was born June 11, 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Mabel Roundtree Vincent; a sister, Marjorie Whitson; two brothers, Rodney and Maurice Vincent; and a brother-in-law, Tommy Denham.
Yvonne was a retired office manager of Fred Turner’s State Farm Insurance Agency, a member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation, and of the “W” Club. Yvonne lettered in tennis at Western Kentucky University in 1983 and then coached the 1984 Lady Topper tennis team. That 1984 team posted the university’s best record in women’s tennis in the decade of the 1980s, posting a 20-8 record and taking third-place honors in the Kentucky Women’s Intercollegiate Championships (KWIC).
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Fred Turner; a son, Mark Turner (Christi) of Louisville; two daughters, Debby Bullock (Bobby) of Sellersburg, Ind., and Jenny Craig (Brad) of Lexington; a sister, Vivian Denham of Bowling Green; a brother, Doris Vincent of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren, Kristin, Robert and Jessica Bullock, Kaitlynn, Cole and Clay Craig, and Allison Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with memorial services at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home and private inurnment at Chandler Memorial Chapel at Western Kentucky University.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been created for WKU tennis. All gifts/donations can be made in memory of Yvonne Turner to the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation at Western Kentucky University, 1605 Avenue of Champions, Bowling Green, KY 42101.
