Richard “Dick” Eugene Owen, 74, of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at his residence at 11:20 p.m.
Born in Joplin, Mo., on Nov. 17, 1938, he was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Britton Owen and John Noah Owen, and two sisters, Dorothy Owen and Patricia Lacey.
SGM Richard E. Owen retired from the Army after a long and dedicated service to his country that included the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Richard was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, American Legion Post 23 and was active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Marie Clark Owen; three daughters, Beth Hillard (Jon) of Sarasota, Fla., Chris Keyser (Matthew) of Bowling Green, and Elaine Schaeufele (Jay) of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister, Beatrice Payne of Santa Fe, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Ryan and Kyle Hillard, Rachel, Adam and Aaron Keyser and John, Jacob, Britton and Emily Schaeufele; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Litany of Remembrance Service at J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, followed by the Rite of Christian Burial at noon, with graveside service afterward at Bowling Green Gardens.
